Thomas Langston
Mario Castenada

Show/Hide Details    Add to Outlook Calendar

Description:
Convergence of Medical and Information Technologies is an indisputable reality. What remains in question is how the existing clinical engineering and information technology domains in healthcare organizations can effectively address the challenges of convergence. This panel session will look at a large multi-hospital system that has successfully integrated Information Technology services and Clinical Engineering and an organization that has a structured relationship between independent CE and IT groups. It will discuss the benefits and pitfalls of integration and non-integration. This session explores the successes and pitfalls of both scenarios with a presentation by organizations who have each selected one of these two approaches. The moderator for this session is Steve Grimes, FACCE FHIMSS, FAIMBE, who was a member of the Clinical Engineering & IT Symposium Planning Committee.

Speaker Information:
Thomas Langston
President and CIO, SSM Information Center
Mario Castenada
Director, Biomedical Engineering, Kaiser Permanente

Objectives:

  • Identify the reasons to integrate versus collaborate
  • Discuss the cultural and structural challenges of integration
  • Explain the benefits that can be derived from a successful integration versus a structured independent relationship
